NWS Forecast Accuracy
Accuracy grade pending, and it stays that way on purpose. We show the raw NWS forecast for Alyeska and do not grade or correct it. Six winters of NWS-against-SNOTEL checking found forecast accuracy here turns on an unresolved snow-measurement question (settled snow depth vs. fresh snowfall), not a fixed per-mountain bias anyone can honestly correct. So we show the number NWS publishes and tell you that is what it is.

TGR Community IntelStorm Day Strategy
Alyeska's in-bounds avalanche terrain runs to a genuinely large scale under the right storm setup: a single 190"+/18"-SWE cycle over Dec 2012 produced 160+ Class II-or-larger avalanches inside the ski-area boundary, and named zones (Lolo's, Pandora's, Ragdoll, the Banjo area, Gail's Gulley, Prospector, Silvertip Face, Max's NE Face, Shadows, Headwall) are professionally patrolled/gun-controlled avalanche paths, not open powder stashes to be free-skied ahead of control clearance. A separate, rain-driven event (Jan 2016) shows the same terrain also releases as wet slabs when heavy rain reaches upper-mountain elevations (~1800 ft) even outside a classic cold-storm cycle. This is control-work/hazard framing, not a skiing recommendation - treat named zones as context for why terrain opens when it does, not a stash guide.
Terrain Opening Patterns
Glacier Bowl Express upper terrain
Upper portions consistently receive snow while base receives rain due to elevation difference
Base area terrain
Lower elevation terrain experiences rain events while upper mountain receives snow
Powder Stashes
Glacier Bowl Express terrain
Upper elevations accessed by GBX
Elevation creates consistent powder in upper portions while base receives wetter snow
Upper Glacier Bowl
Upper mountain terrain
significant avalanche occurred on Saturday night, restricting access on Sunday
