Local Knowledge
TGR Community IntelStorm Day Strategy
Head north to Kicking Horse or Revelstoke from lower resorts (e.g., Fernie) when conditions deteriorate to ice and rocks. Post-storm conditions excellent but expect significant crowds on lifts - hiking terrain preferable. Resort reported as having better snow conditions than Lake Louise and comparable resorts during same period.
Terrain Opening Patterns
Alpine terrain
Opens: Variable - dependent on avalanche control
Alpine terrain requires hiking access (45-60 min walk) after gondola operations. Snow quality good once accessed.
Powder Stashes
Alpine hike terrain
Upper mountain accessed via 45-60 minute bootpack from gondola top
Requires commitment but rewarding; untouched powder accessible post-storm. Quality snow lasts variable duration depending on traffic
Steep trees/glade terrain
Throughout resort
Good secondary option when new snow limited
