NWS Forecast Accuracy
Accuracy grade pending, and it stays that way on purpose. We show the raw NWS forecast for Mt. Rose and do not grade or correct it. Six winters of NWS-against-SNOTEL checking found forecast accuracy here turns on an unresolved snow-measurement question (settled snow depth vs. fresh snowfall), not a fixed per-mountain bias anyone can honestly correct. So we show the number NWS publishes and tell you that is what it is.

Local Knowledge
TGR Community IntelStorm Day Strategy
Mt Rose's highest base elevation (8,260 ft) and north-facing terrain make it most reliable in Tahoe during warm spells. Heavy, dense base-building storms (50"+ wind-packed snow) are common and provide excellent foundation. After storms, main resort opens Lakeview chair and Kit Carson blue run first. Highway closures common on west side (Incline Village access); expect Reno side (Highway 395) to open first. Monitor snow levels: rain-snow line around 5,800-6,000 ft on Reno side means wet snow lower elevation, better quality higher up. Heavy, tiring snow typical after major storms; consolidation time needed. Wind events (120+ mph) common on peaks; consider lower elevation alternatives (Sunrise Bowl area) on extreme wind days.

Lakeview chair to Kit Carson is standard early season opening. Magic carpet used for beginner terrain.
